Welcome
Thanks for Life - End Polio Now
Primary School PowerPoint Competition

In the Autumn 2009 School Term we invited a number of local Primary Schools to join us in our educational efforts to raise awareness about Polio and what Rotary, and our international partners, are doing to eradicate it worldwide. Three schools, Broomwood Primary School, Hale Prep School, and Oldfield Brow Primary School allowed us to deliver information about Polio and our efforts to date.

We went to each school and showed the students a slide show about Polio, answered as many questions as we had time for, and then invited them to make their
own PowerPoint presentation about what they had learned and could discover for themselves. The schools also kindly agreed to help raise funds for Rotary’s eradication efforts.

Each school went about their fund raising in a slightly different way but the collective outcome was that sufficient funds were raised to immunise a total of 1,692 children in the four countries (Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Nigeria) where the wild polio virus is still endemic.

Then came the flood of entries for the PowerPoint competition. A valid entry had to be the work of a student working alone. Every school produced at least one valid entry and the judging was very difficult. We were looking for a Winner from each school to whom we could award a Book Token as a personal prize in addition to a certificate of achievement. In the end we decided to give every student a certificate of achievement for whom the schools submitted an entry, 38 in total.

The winning entry from each school can be viewed by clicking on the school’s name below.

We have submitted the best entries from these schools to the District Final, the results of the judging from which will be announced in mid-February. Watch this space to find out if one of these entries was successful.
